COLORADO SPRINGS

We arrived in Pueblo, Colorado, which is about 50 miles south of Colorado Springs. This arrival marked two straight days without any alarms sounding, broken cables or any other situations that needed handling / repair. Wow, this RVing thing sure can be fun.

We spent the next morning driving through the Garden of the Gods Park in Colorado Springs. These impressive red rock formations are actually beds of red, purple, and white sandstones, conglomerates and limestone that were deposited millions of years ago.

One of the most famous rock formations in the park is called Balanced Rock. As you can see from the photo below, Balanced Rock is well over 50 feet high.

Garden of the Gods Park is located near the base of Pikes Peak, one of Colorado's 54 mountains which rise more than 14,000 feet above sea level. The photo of Pikes Peak below shows the mountain with a dusting of new snow which fell in the area the day before we arrived.

Pikes Peak rises over 8000 feet above the city of Colorado Springs.

We also visited Manitou Springs, a mountain town once famous for its hot springs. Now, it is primarily a collection of various shops, restaurants, and galleries catering to tourists - a fun strolling time for Ann to find a little bit of pottery.

All in all is was a very relaxing day spent playing tourist.

  1. Your photos of the mountains are gorgeous! I can only imagine how fun this stop was to make in person. I look forward to reading your next post as you move north.
