DALLAS, TEXAS

We spent the weekend visiting our daughter Wendy, husband Scott, and grandchildren Amelia (age 8) & John (age 6) in Dallas, Texas. We got to see John play machine-pitch baseball on Saturday afternoon. He got a hit in his only at bat in the game which lasted 3 innings because of a 1-hour time limit. His Yankees team won 4-0. John has a good stroke with the bat and is quick getting down the line to first base. He excelled in the field making a great stop, while playing shortstop, to preserve the shutout. One thing we found interesting is that the players change defensive positions every inning.

We also got to see John play flag football on Sunday. John scored one of his team's two TD's but the Scots lost 21-12. He is very speedy so once he got around the end, no player on the other team could catch him. John is on the right in the photo below.

Later Sunday afternoon, we headed north to Frisco to see the Frisco Rough Riders take on the Midland Rockhounds. Dr. Pepper Stadium is not nearly as picturesque as Pensacola but a nice ballpark that is less than 10 years old. The Rough Riders lost the Texas League game by a 3-1 score.  Even though the game began at 4 pm, it was near 90 degrees.

Our seats were behind the first base dugout with a great view of the action.

John and Amelia are pictured below sitting on the first base dugout before the game began. John is wearing his new baseball sunglasses with his Rough Riders cap. Amelia is wearing her school, University Park (UP), T-shirt.

A great family weekend culminated with a minor-league baseball game before continuing our trip westward.
